Pic of the Day

Q-394-06 (CSXT Toledo, OH - Cumberland, MD Freight) idles on one of the main tracks between Jones Road and Jackson Street on the north side of Fostoria. The locomotive lashup seen here is as follows:

CSXT CW40-8 # 7320
CSXT B40-8 # 5976
CSXT SD40-2 # 8106
CSXT GP38-2 # 2539
CSXT GP38-2 # 2675
CSXT CW40-8 # 7772

All five trailing units are dead after one of the two units being used for power died coming into Fostoria. With over 10,000 feet of train and only one working locomotive, there is no longer enough power to keep the train moving. 394 had already crossed Jones Road, and after several heated discussions the RL dispatcher was instructed to have the train cut the Jones Road crossing and take his power back to Walbridge Yard in Toledo, where he would receive additional or new power and then head back to Fostoria. Several hours and more heated discussions later, the train simply died on the main with the crossing cut. Later in the day, CSXT AC4400CW # 347 and AC6000CW # 605 were cut off of Q-390-06, long since past Fostoria but having major problems of its own (leaving broken rails galore in its wake as it rumbled past Fostoria towards Tiffin), and run back west as an X-091 for additional power for 394, who eventually made it to and departed Willard at 11:00 PM, well over 13 hours after first encountering trouble. CSX efficiency at its finest.

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
