Pic of the Day

CSXT train Q-091-14 glides across Poplar Street in Fostoria powered by the usual (for this train) trio of Union Pacific 5300-series ES44AC's (5330, 5316, and 5322) on a Valentine's Wednesday afternoon. 091 took a delay of 40 minutes or so between Fostoria and Bascom, waiting on the Q-119-13 who was leading a "mini-pack" of 3 westbounds but had engine trouble with his lead locomotive and had to stop between East Fostoria and Columbus Avenue. The fleet of westbounds were the only ones in daylight on the B&O except for Q-389-12 earlier in the morning, as of 3:45 pm. The first daylight eastbound except Q-140-13 earlier in the morning was S-164-14, making his way through Fostoria at 3:24 pm, with Q-390-14 about 20 minutes behind; all of this due to the winter storm that passed through the midwest and northeast on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Q-091 is a new (as of last fall) joint effort of UP and CSX, along with Railex and with counterpart Q-090 (loads), runs one round trip weekly between Wallula, Washington on the UP and Albany, New York on the CSX. The trains are interchanged in Chicago, Illinois, and carry fresh produce and perishables on a 5 day Washington to New York schedule. For more information see the Railex website.

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
