Pic of the Day

Here's a profile of the cab of newly constructed UPY RP20G3 # 2620. This was the trailing unit on Q-351-13 Thursday afternoon, to be delivered to the Union Pacific in Chicago along with UPY 2619, which was just ahead of it in the consist that also included CSXT ES44DC # 5397, UP C44-9W # 9573, and UP SD70ACe # 8422. The train made Fostoria in daylight thanks to the continued long delays and log jams caused by the winter storms, on top of previous delays from derailments on the ex-Conrail east of Cleveland. These new Rail Power "Green Goats" have all been routed on CSX from New York but have taken a variety of different trains and routings to get to the UP - it is almost a new "surprise" every time as to which train and routing they will take, unlike UP's new GE's from Erie, which almost always take Q-351 to get to the UP in Chicago.

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
