Pic of the Day (Q-139-18)

Alas, could it be? Yes, it is! CSXT train Q-139-18 with loads in tow! This hasn't been seen in a year and a half or so. Q-139 used to be a daily Portsmouth, VA - Chicago, IL intermodal via Cleveland, OH. Back sometime in 2005 the train was cut off with a new termination point of Cleveland. Q-139 since then has run west of Cleveland to Chicago on average once or twice a month at best, always (to this writer's knowledge) with an entire train of empty intermodal cars. Today's train (powered by CSXT AC6000CW # 610 and SD70MAC # 4715) is at least the second Q-139 in the last week (I don't know if the other had any loads on or not), and most likely has something to do with the ongoing problems associated with the March 12th derailment in Oneida, New York. Of course, who is to say there is actually anything IN those containers....nevertheless, it was nice to see Q-139 running like it used to and even its old mid-afternooon time slot, hearkening to days gone by.

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
