Pic of the Day

In Fostoria, when the sun goes down, it means the action on the rails is just heating up. Things go from busy as usual to something along the lines of "extreme railfanning" (and sometimes just downright continual organized chaos). Friday nights are certainly no exception. In this view, E-942-28 (West Ashtabula, OH - Cicero, IL/BNSF coal empties; BNSF ES44AC # 6016 and BNSF SD70MAC # 8984) heads west past the B&O depot on main 1 as the sun sets, while Q-340-02 (Cincinatti, OH - Willard, OH freight; new BNSF ES44AC #'s 6191 and 6190) cruises into town on main 2.

As I've said before, Fostoria is often just "UP East"....or maybe "BNSF East" (or, BOTH) tonight; check out the 8 trains that passed through the "Iron Triangle" between 4:35 pm and 6:14 pm today:

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
