Pic of the Day (Q-635-30)

As is now its very standard practice, in the late evening sun CSX train Q-635-30 has pulled into the east siding on the south side of the B&O mainlines in Fostoria, just east of Columbus Avenue. The train is there so as not to block B&O main # 2 while the crew makes their Fostoria set offs in the C&O yard, which they do by cutting off from their train in the east siding, and taking their Fostoria cars around the southeast transfer and into the C&O yard, then backing out onto to their train when they are finished. There are other methods for making the set offs if necessary, but this seems to now be the "standard" way to go about it. Today's train is led by a glimmering less-than-week old "YN3" repaint, CSXT SD60 # 8715 (which was the last straight SD60 still in Conrail paint on CSX prior to its date with the blue dip job at Huntington, WV), and still-in-YN2 SD60 # 8701. SD60I # 8750 is now the last CSXT 8700-series unit in Conrail (it is in "Conrail Quality") paint, and has been frequenting Fostoria in recent weeks as well.

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
