Railfan Alert # 13 - Flood Update

UPDATE: Heads up for: Marion, OH to Toledo, OH via Fostoria, OH, along the CSX ex-C&O mainline, the CSX Toledo Sub between Toledo, OH and Lima/Sydney/Cincinatti, the ex-C&O between Columbus, OH and Russell, KY and Russell and Cincinatti, and the ex-CR Toledo Branch between Toledo, OH and Columbus, OH.

Flooding in northwest Ohio had caused the shutdown of CSX's ex-CR Toledo Branch AND the ex-B&O Toledo Subdivision - however, both lines appear to be reopening at least to some traffic, according to this thread at Train Orders.

Additional re-routes may still possibly take place in the next 24 hours or so; in addition, some trains are still on their routes, such as R-339-23 (re-routed to Willard-Fostoria-Columbus-Russell-Cincinatti), and R-272-24 (who went via Russell, KY as well), who should should be in Toledo by now after passing through Fostoria a little while ago.

Q-231-23 and Q-245-24 both went west at Fostoria this afternoon off of the C&O, then on to Deshler and turned south on the Toledo Sub. Q-342-23 passed through Fostoria eastbound about 5:30 pm and had also come from its normal routing via Deshler.

Further updates will be posted IF additional re-routes are known to be taking place. Please leave a comment or e-mail Fostoria Rails if you know of any further activity or news in regard to these re-routes.

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
