Pic of the Day

A view of NS 234 in Fostoria's surrounding countryside? No, not today! This is Norfolk Southern detour train Z-871-21, powered by NS SD70M-2 # 2691, C40-9W # 9661 and C39-8 # 8613, at the TR47 road crossing just east of East Fostoria on the CSX/B&O main line at 12:06 pm on Thursday.

This is at least the second Norfolk Southern double stack/intermodal detour train to come east from Chicago today due to yesterday's derailment on the NS Chicago Line at Goshen (where else?), Indiana. The first (at least) passed Fostoria eastbound at 8:26 am with NS C40-8W # 8336 (Conrail paint) and C40-9W # 9355. A third passed eastbound through Fostoria at 1:31 pm, powered by NS C40-9W # 9418 and C39-8 # 8686.

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
