Pic of the Day

Friday afternoon brings some rare visitors to Fostoria in several ways: First, Q-369-22 is passing milepost 35 at East Fostoria running in daylight, well past its more typical "midnight run" (many other westbound trains were running well behind "schedule" out of Willard on Friday, too.) Then, a GP35u, and on the lead, courtesy of BNSF 2502 (rebuilt or not...it's a GP35!) Trailing are BNSF GP39-2 # 2721, also a rarity around here (CSX's small fleet of 20 GP39-2's stay almost exclusively in Florida, and NS has none), and, RLCX SW7 (not exactly something you see every day on the main line, either) # 1255 which is waybilled as going to the ICE in Chicago...its final destination is unknown. 1255, in a far-fetched way, is on home rails: It is originally Atlantic Coast Line # 651, later Seaboard Coast Line # 133; and of course, the SCL is an integral part of what is now CSX. Is it February 2007 or February 1982? I guess the paint schemes betray the times; but otherwise.....

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
