Pic of the Day (Q-291-15)

With over 3,900 locomotives on the roster, 44 different models and 18 paint scheme variations (I may be off by one or two...correct me if I'm wrong), plus hundreds of lease engines in various colors, and all of the "foreign" power running around, it can be quite a challenge to find a "matched set" of anything from the same railroad, builder, and model, and in the same paint scheme and number series. But that is what Q-291-15 has for power today, featuring CSXT C40-8 #'s 7611 and 7634 in the "bright future" scheme. The head end of the train is seen here from the Town Street road crossing on NS, plodding across the NS/C&O diamonds as it makes the turn around the northeast transfer from westbound to northbound (geographically) on Friday afternoon. Speaking of, CSX probably wishes its future would get brighter, but traffic is still both "light" and "off schedule" from normal in Fostoria these days as the derailment clean up in Oneida, New York enters its fifth day. Many X-series intermodal trains, those that are actually running, are way off their normal Q-series schedules, and many are "doubled up" by combining trains at some point. Willard is beginning to get clogged up with no room to put inbound trains, ("can't get any out, so can't get any in") so some are simply being left wherever they can be left. As mentioned earlier in the week, NS traffic in Fostoria is enjoying the easier-than-usual trek across the diamonds. Just how busy it will get once traffic starts flowing on its normal routes is anyone's guess.......

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
