Pic of the Day (V-680-11)

CSXT AC4400CW # 136 shows off its "CSXX" logo as it passes over US-23 and Lytle Street on the southeast transfer on Thursday afternoon. This is the lead locomotive on V-680-11 (Scotts Branch, KY - Lurgan, PA coal loads); trailing was CSXT SD70MAC # 4740. V-680 was part of a flurry of activity on CSX - 6 trains in 22 minutes (Q-299-15, N-801, V-680-11, Q-151-15, E-494-14, and Q291-14) - that passed through Fostoria after X-110-15 and V-980-14 went east. X-110 was delayed at Godsend for 45 minutes while "the chiefs" tried to decide whether or not its power should be turned at Fostoria. The purpose would have been to have a good cab signalled lead locomotive once the train arrived on NS rails later in the day to detour around the Oneida, New York derailment, which is now beginning its fourth day of major service disruptions. The end result was not turning the power, but a lengthy delay for X-110 and a major back up of traffic in Fostoria.

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
