Pic of the Day (K-388-17)

The clouds and cold have returned to Fostoria yet again, if only for a day or two (let's hope!). And while I would love to convince you (and myself!) that this is a Colorado-originated coal train being delivered eastbound from the Denver & Rio Grande Western, you probably know better! What is IS, though, is CSXT train K-388-17, an empty coke train from Detroit, MI, bound for Willard, OH and then on to the Wheeling & Lake Erie. This is the second time this set of power, WE SD40T-2 #'s 5413 and 5391, both in full DRGW colors, has made the trip from Willard to Detroit in the last week, seen here pulling eastbound after rounding the northeast transfer and crossing over to B&O main 2. Symbols K-389 (westbound loads to Detroit) and K-388 (eastbound empties to Willard/WE) are being used for what appears to be a new run through train, although perhaps it is only temporary; I haven't seen anything official on this yet...nevertheless, I'm enjoying it while it lasts!

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
