Pic of the Day (Q-290-21)

Same old, same old....Q-290-21 (Detroit, MI - Cleveland, OH auto racks) running with 1 engine...but at least today it's a 4000 HP GE instead of a "rent-a-wreck," which happens frequently, and (surprise!) the train is unable to make anywhere near track speed. Today's one unit wonder seemed to be doing OK with the big GE on the front.

C40-8W's have been around long enough and are so common that it is easy to say "boring!" But there will come a day, as it seems to for all locomotive models, paint schemes, etc, when this will be a rare sight. Hard to imagine now, of course. But there is something in the "ordinary" of today that becomes the "extra-ordinary" in the future. Until then, enjoy the ordinary...ordinary is special, and you never know when it will be the last "ordinary" you experience!

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
