Pic of the Day
While working out of town Friday afternoon, but within range to hear chatter on the scanner, I heard a G-850-19 heading east toward Fostoria. A cross check of the lead unit I could hear on the scanner, FURX 3035, with UP 7605, which I knew had been in Garrett, Indiana on its way east, confirmed my suspicion: UP 7605 was on the train.
Back in February when this unit was delivered, I missed it as it went through Fostoria around 5 am, and I had stayed up intentionally until 4 am hoping to see it, but it took forever to get out of Willard (much longer than the usual long overlay for Q-351's). My eyes couldn't hold up any longer, and, in the pitch black of night, I wouldn't have gotten a photo of it anyway; but I still wish I could've seen it, as I thought it would likely be my only chance.
Well, no, even though I had hoped to get a second chance to see UP 7605, I didn't leave what I was doing and highball for the south side of Fostoria, though I thought about it! And since this unit has moved on to Virginia, the odds aren't good on it coming back, if it is true that it will be repainted in standard UP paint by GE. So, I may not ever get to see or photograph it for the blog. However, as you can see, e-mailer Scott was in Fostoria when G-850-19 came through, and took this shot near the B&O depot of the uniquely painted UP ES44AC. Thank you to Scott for sending this; if anyone else ever has a photo that you'd like to share for the "Pic of the Day," be sure to e-mail me!
