Pic of the Day (Q-393-13)

CSX has had more lease engines around, by far, than any other railroad, and for a LONG time. Recently, many Helm lease engines, as well as FURX 3000-3029, have been stored and are in the process of being returned. All that really does is make lease units less common, but they are by no means uncommon- they still number in the hundreds on CSX. One such example is HLCX SD40-2 # 7180, which for now has escaped being dipped in blue and still wears its former Burlington Northern colors. It is paired here on Wednesday evening with CSXT C40-8 # 7512 on train Q-393-13 (Selkirk, NY - Chicago/Clearing Yard, IL freight), rattling westbound over the NS diamond and past the eastbound signal on main 1, while Q-156-14 (Chicago/59th Street Yard, IL - S. Kearny, NJ double stacks/intermodal) speeds through town in the opposite direction.

March 5th, 2008:

Spring may be on the way soon, but it was certainly not here yet on this winter morning of storm recovery, full of snow, ice, and grey skies.

Through the scene next to old B&O depot in Fostoria blasts BNSF SD70MAC # 9618, looking rather ghostly with its "BN" logo no longer on the nose. She is leading CSXT train U-994-04 (Cicero, IL/BNSF - Colona, PA Powder River coal loads) eastbound on B&O main # 2, along with BNSF SD70MAC # 9404, also in the "executive" colors. Both units also have fairly newly applied "swoosh" patches on the sides of the cabs, not visible here.

The winter weather delayed many trains on this day, but didn't keep the Fostoria Rails from being just as busy as ever.
